Destroyed church in Kholm, 1942
Due to the constant artillery fire of the Soviet Red Army on the enclosed German Wehrmacht in Kholm, the entire city was destroyed. Here is a view of the church in the city centre. During the encirclement battle of Cholm the Kampfgruppe Scherer successfully defended the town for 105 days.
