Destroyed houses in Kholm, 1942
Already at the beginning of the encirclement battle the complete town was destroyed by artillery. After the end of the battle in May 1942, there were no more intact houses in the city centre. During the encirclement battle of Kholm the Kampfgruppe Scherer successfully defended the town for 105 days.
