The Deutsches Weintor - German Wine Gate, 1943

The eighteen-meter-high Deutsches Weintor (German Wine Gate) in the South-Palatinate wine-growing community of Schweigen-Rechtenbach is a Neoclassical gateway with adjoining buildings. The two copper poppies on the roof ridge are intended to symbolize everlasting prosperity. It was built in 1936 under the National Socialists. On the southern side of the building, right above, is a four-meter-high Reichsadler (Imperial Eagle) that holds a swastika in its claws. The swastika was striked out after the Second World War
