Dorothea von Salviati had met Prince William of Prussia during her studies in Bonn, with whom she became engaged in 1933. On June 3, the church wedding took place in Bonn. Since the marriage was considered by the Prussian imperial family as not equal, Prince Wilhelm had to renounce his claim to the throne
