British-Egyptian infantry camp in Sudan. They were stationed there to fight against the Mahdist state in what is now Sudan. The Mahdist Revolt was a rebellion against Anglo-Egyptian rule in the Sudanese provinces and lasted from 1881 to 1898 until the British regained complete control of Egypt
