Two town criers in traditional robes with tricorne hats and handbells during a crier competition in Croydon, Surrey (today part of South London). On the right Mr. Walter Abbott of Lyme Regis, Dorset, present champion town crier of England, on the left Mr. F. Welch of Bridgeport, Dorset, known as the most handsome crier, who is a former champion. Both were challenged by a female, Mrs. Evelyn Hamilton. Date created: 01.01.1939-31.12.1939
