Engraving of Till Eulenspiegel
Till Eulenspiegel, a historical figure, was born in 1300 in Kneitlingen and died in 1350 in Moelln at Luebeck. As the hero of a book (the oldest preserved printing from 1515), he tends to take the requests of his partner too literally, instead of applying mutatis mutandis. The picture shows an engraving of the Nuremberg engraver Peter Troeschel from 1650. The model of the artist was Eulenspiegel's portrait on his grave stone in the church of Damme in Flanders
