Erwin von Witzleben on trial in front of the People's Court

General Field Marshall Erwin von Witzleben in front of the People's Court on August 8, 1944. Since 1939 Witzleben was involved in the plans for a coup against Hitler, and according to the plan, would have become the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces after Hitler's overthrow on July 20, 1944. After the failure of the coup he was arrested on July 21, 1944. On August 8, 1944 he was sentenced to death and executed on the same day in Berlin-Ploetzensee
