Female students planting kitchen gardens in Rome, 1941

During the war, many public gardens in Italy were converted into kitchen gardens in order to use these areas for food security. In Rome, too, plants were turned over, as here on April 4 in Rome. University students helped with the gardening. A rather symbolic act of propaganda given the inappropriate clothing and footwear. In front of the field there is a sign saying: Orto di guerra / Rispettatelo (Vegetable garden for war / Pay attention to it)
