This engraving, based on a drawing of Jean-Michel Moureau le Jeune in Paris around 1780, shows the destruction of the Irminsul at the Eresburg on the Diemel, a sacred Saxon monument, during the First Saxon War (772), which Charles the Great (later Charlemagne) led for the forced introduction of Christianity
