Forced eviction of a shanty town on the Tiber in Rome

On the Lungotevere della Vittoria waterfront on the Tiber in Rome, a shantytown was forcibly evicted. The inhabitants, who did not want to leave their houses voluntarily, were resettled in workers apartments by the fascist militia. The militia had already begun to demolish the barracks. In the center of the picture, an officer of the Milizia Volontaria per la Sicurezza Nazionale (MVSN) stands surrounded by rubble and debris. Across the Tiber, new apartment blocks stand on the Lungotevere Flaminio waterfront. Facing the river are sports fields, with people playing on the football pitch.
