After the surrender of France following the successful Western campaign, a British naval formation attacked French warships in the harbor con Mers-el-Kebir at Oran as part of a naval operation called Operation Catapult. The poster commemorates the fallen French sailors - the last man is still holding the French flag while the British ships are seen in the background
