French Revolution, assignat worth 100 francs
On the expropriated church property since 1789, the royal domains, and the emigrants to cover the large demand for money interest issued government bonds, whose enormous amount led to a rapid decline in the value. In 1796 the assignats were therefore replaced by the mandate territoriaux with limited circulation. But these papers also lost rapidly in value. Till 1797 a great part of the population was impoverished by the assignats
