Friedrich Ebert, German SPD politician

Friedrich Ebert (04.02.1872-28.02.1925), German Socialist politician. Son of a tailor, he joined the SPD in 1889 and was elected in 1912 for his party into the Reich Parliament, before he became Party Leader in 1913 after Bebel's death. In 1916 he and Philipp Scheidemann were joint parliamentary party leaders and in 1918 together with Hugo Haase he became chairman of the public commissioner board. From 1919 until his death he was Reich President of the Weimar Republic
