Funeral procession for Wilhelm I at the Brandenburg Gate
The funeral procession for Emperor Wilhelm I, who died on the 9th of March, here at the Brandenburg Gate on the 16th of March in Berlin, before the burial of the Emperor in the mausoleum in the park of Charlottenburg Palace. At the Brandenburg Gate, the columns of which are draped with black fabric, hangs the inscription: Vale senex imperator (Farewell, Old Emperor!). Crowds of people watch the funeral procession from grandstands, windows and roofs
