Georg Elser, 1939
Portrait of the journeyman carpenter Johann Georg Elser, taken by the Gestapo in November 1939 in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp. Elser, who was born in 1903 in Hermaringen, Wuerttemberg, committed an attempt on Adolf Hitler in the Munich Buergerbraeukeller on November 8, 1939. Hitler narrowly escaped and Georg Elser was shot after nearly five years of imprisonment in a concentration camp in Dachau on April 9, 1945
