The German cruiser Emden in the First World War
The German cruiser Emden was after a successful war effort so badly damaged by the Australian cruiser Sydney at the Cocos Islands, that the commander, Captain Karl von Mueller, put it on base. Here is a photo of the crew at the coal bunkers (Film photo)
