German soldiers during a break in Kholm, 1942
German soldiers take a break at a bunker. They sleep, smoke, read the newspaper and cook in the background. During the encirclement battle of Kholm the Kampfgruppe Scherer successfully defended the town for 105 days. (A photo of the Propaganda Company (PK) by war correspondent Richard Muck, who flew into the pocket at the beginning of March)
