Sailors at the front in Flanders wear masks during an exercise related to gas attacks. In some cases, the soldiers are already wearing special gas masks. However, even these gas masks were still lacking sufficient filters. Other soldiers are merely wearing simple cloth respirators that were wettened in order to protect the soldiers from the gas
