German soldiers in a trench, 1942

Soldiers of the Wehrmacht are talking at the end of an approach trench in Kholm. Two Wehrmacht soldiers dressed in civilian clothes are standing in the trench. During the encirclement battle of Kholm the Kampfgruppe Scherer successfully defended the town for 105 days. (A photo of the Propaganda Company (PK) by war correspondent Richard Muck, who flew into the pocket at the beginning of March)
