The Glaspalast (Glass Palace) in Munich, 1854
The Glaspalast (Glass Palace) was built in the years 1853/54 under the reign of King Maximilian II of Bavaria, for the Erste Allgemeine Deutsche Industrieausstellung (First General German Industrial Exhibition) in 1854 in Munich by the architect August von Voit on the grounds of the old Botanical Garden. Executing company was Cramer-Klett from Nuremberg. Initially planned only for the duration of the exhibition, the building played an important cultural role for the city until it was destroyed by arson in 1931. Due to the exhibitions and events that took place there, the Glaspalast (Glass Palace) was a landmark for Munich as a city of art.
