The Glaspalast (Glass Palace) in Munich

The Glaspalast (Glass Palace) was built in the years 1853/54, under the reign of King Maximilian II of Bavaria for the First General German Industrial Exhibition in 1854 in Munich by the architect August von Voit on the grounds of the old botanical garden. The executing company was Cramer-Klett from Nuremberg. Initially it was planned for the duration of the exhibition, but the building played an important cultural role for the city until its destruction by arson in 1931. Through the exhibitions and events that were held there, the Glass Palace was a landmark of Munich as a city of art
