Hans Dieckhoff during a press conference, 1938

The German ambassador to the USA, Hans Heinrich Dieckhoff, is interviewed by journalists during a press conference. The press conference took place on the passenger ship Bremen, with which he travelled from the USA back to Germany. He returned after Adolf Hitler held a speech on the occasion of the so-called Sudetenland Crisis. A few days later the Munich Conference occurred (September 29-30, 1938), at which it was decided that Czechoslovakia must hand over the Sudeten region to the German Reich
