Heinkel He 162 jet aircraft in production, 1944
Towards the end of the war Heinkel developed a jet-powered aircraft that was easy to produce; the He 162, which was intended to put a stop to the Allied bombing raids on German cities and had to be produced underground because of their air superiority. Like other projects in the armaments industry at the end of the Second World War, the production of the He 162 was thus part of the so-called underground relocation ('U-Verlagerung')
