Hellmuth Hirth and his new motor H.M.60, 1931

The pilot and engineer Hellmuth Hirth (1886-1938) stands next to the plane engine H.M.60 which he constructed, a 4 cylinder air-cooled in-line engine in a hanging arrangement with a performance of 65 PS at 2100 rotations per minute. With this motor one could reach a speed of 150 km/h. It consumed about 18 liters of fuel. This meant a savings of 10-15% compared to other models. The oil consumption stood at 10 flying hours per 0.5 liters. That meant an approximate 95% savings in lubricants
