The Belgian architect Henry van de Velde (1863-1957) was called to Weimar in 1902, where he directed the School of Applied Arts, in 1907 he was co-founder of the German Work Federation, in 1927 Professor Henry van de Velde was named director of the Brussel Highschool for Decorative Arts. With his demand for functional and material balance and the connection of art and craft, van de Velde was one of the leading artists and theorists of the Jugendstil
