Hochmeisterstein in memory of Ulrich von Jungingen

The First Battle of Tannenberg, now Stebark, on 15 July 1410 was fought between the Teutonic Knights on the one hand and the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania on the other side. Even today, this battle is the national myth of Poland and Lithuania. In Polish it is called the Battle of Grunwald. Ulrich von Jungingen held the highest office in the Teutonic Order, the office of the Hochmeister (Grand Master). In the Second Peace of Thorn of 1466, the Grand Master obliged the Poles to pledge allegiance and military service and thus ended the Thirteen Years War of the cities, this also brought along the division of Prussia. 1910 a memorial stone was set at the place where previously was a chapel
