Inauguration of the war memorial in Berlin, 1931
A division of the Reichswehr marches with old Prussian guard flags on the occasion of the redesign of the Neue Wache as a memorial to commemorate the victims of the First World War. The transformation was carried out at the behest of President Paul von Hindenburg and was completed by the architect Heinrich Tessenow. The picture shows Hindenburg (with spiked helmet), together with Erich Rader (then head of the Supreme Command of the Navy) and on the left, other generals of the Reichswehr. The ceremony was also attended by representatives of the Reich Government, the Prussian State Government as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps and the Berlin universities.
