Italian Balilla Boys in Bayonet Fight, 1934

At a tent camp in the summer of 1934, boys belonging to the fascist youth organization Opera Nazionale Balilla practiced handling the bayonet in single combat. In the Balilla, the youths were drilled athletically and militarily for later entry into the army. The picture was taken in mid-August in Grottaferrata, southeast of Rome, the location of the holiday camp
