Johann Friedrich Freiherr von Cotta von Cottendorf, bookseller, after a painting by Karl Leybold. Cotta was the owner of the Cotta'sche bookstore in Tuebingen. Through his personal relations especially with Friedrich Schiller and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was the most important publisher of the contemporary literature, he founded the, for decades authoritative Allgemeine Zeitung'. The company was demised in 1889 to the family Kroener, in 1977 it was taken over by the publishing house Ernst Klett
