Junkerhof in Gdansk

In the Junkerhof, also called Artus Court, there was a festival hall, in which the merchants gathered in the Middle Ages. This building was built in the 14th century. The name Artus goes back to the legend of King Arthur, his name stood for chivalry. In Europe it was a custom to name meeting places of knights and nobles after Arthur. The stalls of the hall were made by Heinrich Holzapfel from Cologne in 1531. This is a photograph of the Staatliche Messbildanstalt in Berlin. The destroyed building was rebuilt after the Second World War and is now open to the public
