King Alfons XIII of Spain abdicates, 1931
Original text: The Spanish directorate has resigned completely unexpectedly. As Prime Minister, General Primo de Rivera took over the creation of the civil cabinet. The ministerial posts were filled with one Admiral and six civilians. The photo shows the King of Spain and standing on the right, behind him, Primo de Rivera. Because the Republican parties in the larger cities won in the General Election of 1931, several cities in Spain proclaimed a Republic. King Alfons XIII left Spain, without abdicating his crown. Niceto Alcala Zamora created a temporary government of Republican and Socialist members of the revolutionary committees
