This photograph from 1875 shows King Ludwig II of Bavaria. King Ludwig II carries the Order of St. Hubert, the house order of the Wittelsbach and one of the four royal Bavarian orders. After his deposition on June 9, 1886, his uncle Luitpold took over, as Prinzeregent, the governmental affairs of the Bavarian kingdom. Due to his activity as builder of many well-known Bavarian castles, King Ludwig II received the nickname Fairy Tale King
