Through the constitution, Bavaria became the eighth state of the German Confederation. In this constitution, the question of representation was regulated. The constitution was valid until the end of the Bavarian Kingdom in 1918. Maximilian I Joseph of Bavaria was the son of Frederick Michael, Count Palatine of Zweibruecken, husband of: 1. Princess Wilhelmine Auguste of Hesse-Darmstadt (1785), 2. Princess Karoline Friederike Wilhelmine of Baden (1797)
