King William I. on the spa promenade in Bad Ems, 1870

King Wilhelm I. of Prussia is seen here in company of hid adjutant von Sepel on the spa promenade in Bad Ems. In this health resort, the king held a conversation with the French ambassador Count Benedetti on the French request for a waiver on the Hohenzollern candidacy for the throne in Spain. H. Abeken sent a telegram on 13.07.1870 which reported on the contents of this conversation, the so-called Ems telegram to Berlin
