King Wilhelm I. of Prussia is seen here in company of hid adjutant von Sepel on the spa promenade in Bad Ems. In this health resort, the king held a conversation with the French ambassador Count Benedetti on the French request for a waiver on the Hohenzollern candidacy for the throne in Spain. H. Abeken sent a telegram on 13.07.1870 which reported on the contents of this conversation, the so-called Ems telegram to Berlin
