Krupp's Hammer Fritz, around 1900
In September 1861 the world-famous Fritz hammer designed by Alfred Krupp was used for the first time in the Krupp factories. It could be used to forge cast steel weighing up to 50, 000 pounds for the heaviest ship shafts and other mass objects. With the Fritz hammer the cast steel factory joined the ranks of the largest forges in Europe and the world. Undated photo
