Leather case for the champagne bottle for the

The picture shows the leather case containing the sparkling wine of the brand Soehnlein and Co, Rheingauer Schaumweinkellerei, which was used for the christening of the imperial yacht Meteor III. The case was donated by the German community in Milwaukee. The christening of the Meteor took place on February 25, 1902 in New York in the presence of Henry of Prussia. The dedication on the box reads: METEOR / The German Rhine's liquid gold, / proffered by the most German city in the country / as a / LIBATION / of the unbreakable friendship between the two nations, / which are closest to our hearts / Milwaukee in February 1902'. The so-called Champagnerkrieg (Champagne War) started in connection with the christening of the ship
