Letter with instructions for euthanising incurable patients

At the beginning of the war all German health care facilities instituted the selection of unworthy lives'. Mental patients that were considered untreatable were transferred by the thousands to extermination facilities like Hadamar, where they were killed by doctors. Our photo shows the instructions from Hitler on September 1, 1939 to Reich Leader Philipp Bouhler and to Doctor Karl Brandt, temporarily personal doctor to Hitler, with the order to euthanize incurable patients. After the churches protested, the Reich Justice Minister Guertner requested information about the procedures at the health facilities of death. As a result, he was handed this instruction from Hitler by Reich Leader Bouhler on August 27, 1940
