Mahatma Gandhi, 1930

Mahatma Gandhi at the Dandi camp in Navsari district, Gujarat state. Gandhi led a salt marsh there to break the salt monopoly of the British. All participants produced their salt there themselves. The imprisonment of some of the leaders of the Congress Party had a large share in the success of the campaign. This campaign was the first step to India's independence. Gandhi was nominated several times for the Nobel Peace Prize during his lifetime
