The leader of the Indian nationalist movement Mahatma Gandhi is invited to America by the President of the Indian Nationalist Association in America, Salandra Ghose. Salandra's daughter Mariam hands Gandhi the invitation. On the right next to Gandhi is his secretary Madeleine Slade, called Mirabeth, beside Salandra Ghose and her daughters Mariam and Lilabati.
