Grand Master of the Teutonic Order, the office of the Grand Master was the highest office in the Teutonic Order, and gallant member of the Livonian Order. The Livonian Order was a spiritual order of knights and was founded in 1202 by Theoderich von Treiden at the initiative of Bishop Albert I of Riga to proselytize Livonia. In 1237, after the defeat at Schaulen, the order was incorporated into the Teutonic Order
