Napoleon and the Jews, 1806
Two years after his coronation as emperor, Napoleon I legalized the right of Jews to practice their religion in France in a legislative act. This was a reaction to the anti-Semitic hate campaigns in France. The picture shows a contemporary engraving, allegorically depicting Napoleon as protector of the Jews
