The Odeonsplatz with the Feldherrnhalle, 1955
In 1816, King Ludwig I commissioned the architect Leo von Klenze to design the Ludwigstrasse and a central square, which was supposed to make more sumptuous the way from the Residenz over the Fuerstenweg (today Brienner Strasse) to Nymphenburg Palace. The Feldherrnhalle is a classicist loggia at the southern end of the Odeonsplatz. For the construction of the Feldherrnhalle (from 1841 to 1844), which had the model of the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence, King Ludwig I commissioned Friedrich von Gaertner
