The Otto von Bismarck memorial in the Sachsenwald (Saxon Wood) near Hamburg was built from 1901-1906. It is 34.3 meters high in total. The 14.8 meter high colossal statue of granite ashlars by the sculptor Emil Lederer rises on the powerful round base by the architect Emil Schaudt. On the base giant athletes embody the German tribes and German imperial eagles sit at Bismarck's feet
