Penitentiary in Sankt Pankraz, around 1943

Heinrich Himmler established a place of execution in Pankrac prison in 1943, in the south of Prague. Since the occupation of Czechoslovakia, the prison had been used as a detention center by the Gestapo. Guillotines and iron hooks stood in the so-called Beilzimmer for hanging. All participants of the Operation Anthropoid were killed in this room. Undated photo, around 1943
