Debye, a Dutch physicist, was since 1935 Director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Physics. In June 1938 he became Director of the newly founded Max-Planck-Institute. Max Planck was President of the Kaiser Wilhelm Society between1930-1937. Carl Bosch, the Chairman of IG Farben became his successor as President in 1937
