Placard of the German Committee for Schleswig Nordmark want
In the framework of the Versailles Treaty, referendums were to be held in various border areas of the German Reich to decide the future national affiliation of the areas, such as in Schleswig. In the first voting zone of North Schleswig on February 10, 1920, 74.2% of the population voted to cede to Denmark. The inhabitants of the second zone voted on March 14 for remaining in Germany.
