Protest meeting on the Heumarkt in Gdansk, 1919
On the Heumarkt in Gdansk, citizens are gathering to protest against Gdansk's cession to Poland. In their eyes this decision of American President Woodrow Wilson, violated the right of peoples to self-determination. A large part of the Gdansk population had a German biographical background. On a banner reads: West Prussia is German and wants to stay German!'. The separation of Gdansk from Germany took place according to regulations of the Versailles Treaty and the League of Nations
