Rachitic children, 1919
Rachitic children, recognizable by their square-shaped heads and their asymmetric posture. Rickets is caused by a disturbance of the calcium and phosphate metabolism due to vitamin D deficiency in childhood. Consequences of the Rachitic are softening of the cranial bone at the occiput, swellings on the ribs and wrists, susceptibility to infections of the upper airways. Later, it can lead to the bending of the legs and the spinal column, too tight cymbal and disturbances in the tooth structure
