Reichsadler - Imperial Eagle, 1587
Representation of a double-headed Reichsadler (Imperial Eagle) as Quaternion Eagle after a copper engraving by Johann Bussemacher from Cologne. This is an ideal-typical representation of the Empire in its coat of arms, a double-headed, haloed eagle (endowed with a halo), which protects the Estates of the Empire under its wing. The motif is symmetrical, the coats of arms of the German Emperor and King Rudolf II (1552-1612) are depicted at his feathers on the right and left of the haloed heads. The Emperor's coat of arms on the left leads Castile, Aragon, Sicilia, Austria and Burgundy in the shield, the King's coat of arms on the right Hungary, Bohemia, Castile, Aragon, Sicily, Alsace, additionally in the heart-shaped shield Burgundy / Austria
